Lin Tianmiao gebruikt wit draad om alledaagse objecten in te pakken. Daarmee verwijst ze naar de altijd aanwezige spanning tussen traditie en moderne China. Ook verwijst ze daarmee naar de traditionele vrouwenhandenarbeid.
Samen met de videokunstenaar en echtgenoot Wang Gongxin maakte ze in 2002 de fotoserie Here? Or There? Deze kleurenfoto's zijn versierde meditaties over stedelijke en organische veranderingen, herinneringen, geesten en het versierde lichaam.
