Jae Hoon Lee werd geboren in Seoul, vertrok op zijn achttiende naar San Francisco en woont sinds enkele jaren in Auckland. Net als veel immigranten houdt Jae Hoon Lee zich bezig met zijn identiteit. Lee laat dat in zijn werk zien in een montage van verschillende huidskleuren, een soort camouflage-huid, die hij digitaal vervaardigde van verschillende stukjes huid. Huid, als beschermer van de innerlijke mens, heeft altijd een belangrijke rol gespeeld.
Voor het werk 'Leaf’ verzamelde hij gedurende een jaar blaadjes van de bomen in Auckland. De blaadjes van de vier seizoenen monteerde hij digitaal aan elkaar.
