Matsuura behoort wel tot de generatie van Murakami, van jongs af aan beïnvloed door cartoons, games, strips en tekenfilms. Matsuura toont de typische esthetiek van deze virtuele werelden, waarbij zijn schilderijen zich ergens bewegen tussen design en kunst. Matsuura werk lijkt schattig maar toont juist de harde kanten van de digitale wereld. Met de interactie tussen cyberspace romantiek en zijn eigen gevoelens in de echte wereld weet Matsuura verschillende betekenislagen in zijn werk te leggen.
