Trent Parke groeide op in Newcastle, ten noorden van Sydney. Nadat hij professioneel cricketspeler was, werkt hij nu sinds een aantal jaar als nieuws- en sportjournalist. Eerst in dienst van diverse kranten, nu onafhankelijk. Naast zijn werk onderzocht hij met zijn camera het leven van de bewoners van de stad Sydney, dat in 1999 resulteerde in de serie Dream/Life and Beyond. Hij wil het leven documenteren zoals hij die ziet als hij de deur uitloopt, maar in zijn foto’s toont hij juist die beelden die buitengewoon overkomen. In 2002 is Parke gevraagd toe te treden tot het prestigieuze fotoagentschap Magnum.
Met Narelle Autio maakte hij de serie The Seventh Wave, waarin de Australische strandcultuur wordt vastgelegd, zowel boven als onder water. Een wereld openbaart zich waarin iedereen een zekere gratie krijgt door de gewichtloosheid en een wereld die voortdurend in beweging is, maar waar toch stilte heerst.
