Being born and raised in Mumbai, India, Janavi Mahimtura Folmsbee attended The School of the Art Institute in Chicago, Illinois in the United States for College. Janavi Mahimtura Folmsbee graduated in 2009 with a BFA in painting.

Mahimtura's paintings, not photorealistic nor abstract, are conceptual by nature and address different social behaviors and contexts. Each work addresses an individual topic, towards which the viewer is gently pointed in the direction by the help of catchy titles. "As I draw most of my inspiration from my environment, my titles come from random things people may say, which I write down in a little black book."

Mahimtura's use of color and her unique techniques result in expressive paint works in vibrant colors that touch upon various facets of human life.
